Director of Development

Amazement Square, a nationally recognized hands-on children’s museum, seeks a strategic and experienced Director of Development to lead and grow the museum’s fundraising efforts. This senior leadership role is ideal for a goal-oriented, collaborative professional who is passionate about advancing Amazement Square’s mission and long-term impact.

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Development works closely with the Board of Directors and senior leadership team to build donor engagement, cultivate relationships, and secure philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and granting agencies. The Director also leads fundraising initiatives in support of the museum’s programs, exhibitions, and annual Gala.

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement strategic plans for the museum’s Development department.

    • Lead, supervise, and support development staff; manage the department’s annual operating budget.

    • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and grantmakers.

    • Oversee tracking and reporting of gifts, pledges, solicitations, and campaign materials.

    • Prepare correspondence, reports, and meeting documentation related to development activities.

    • Collaborate with the VP & COO and Marketing Coordinator to plan and execute annual fundraising events, including the museum’s Gala.

    • Support board engagement and participation in fundraising activities.

    • Assist the President & CEO with strategic planning and communications that strengthen relationships with donors, board members, and community partners.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree.

    • At least 3 years of experience working with a donor database and managing financial reports, statistics, and information, preferably in a nonprofit environment.

    • Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and time-management skills.

    • Strong working knowledge of development and accounting processes.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (PC environment).

    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

    • Proven ability to meet deadlines, manage details, and supervise staff.

    • Ability to write and speak persuasively about the museum and its work.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Graduate degree in the humanities, education, business, or a related field.

    • Experience working in a museum or nonprofit cultural organization.

    • Demonstrated success securing major gifts for a nonprofit or cultural institution.

    Compensation & Benefits

    Salary range: $70,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience. Amazement Square offers a generous benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement benefits. Amazement Square is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Museum Educator

Amazement Square is seeking child-oriented, dynamic, and creative individuals to join our team, working up to 28 hours a week. Responsibilities include exhibition and program interpretation, assistance with museum events and special activities, community outreach, birthday party facilitation, and more.

An ideal candidate will possess a true love of learning and excellent communication skills. A college degree or active pursuit of a degree is required.

WonderCamp Counselor

‍Amazement Square is seeking child-oriented, dynamic, and creative individuals to lead summer WonderCamp sessions for 2025. Amazement Square offers three level of camp programs: Explorer, Adventurer, and Junior. WonderCamp Explorer and Adventurer are full day programs for campers who have completed kindergarten-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade. WonderCamp Junior is a half day program for ages 3-5.
Every week features a new theme and new campers. Themes include Mess Fest, Mighty Machines, STEM to Mars, Digital Designers, Robot Engineers, and Big Messy Art. WonderCamp encourages deep exploration of topics and emphasizes STEAM based activities. Counselors are responsible for facilitating camp curriculum in an exciting and engaging way while overseeing camper behavior and camp class management.

An ideal candidate will possess a true love of learning, be confident in a classroom setting, and have experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting.

Camps take place from June 1st-August 7th with no camp the week of July 4th. Counselor and Intern training will take place the week on May 26th – 29th.

Internship Opportunities


Join Amazement Square as an intern and get hands-on, real-world experience in a fun, dynamic museum environment. High school and college students are invited to explore opportunities in development, events, sustainability, and more while building skills, making connections, and growing your community. High school internships are available to Juniors or Seniors only and interns must have their own reliable transportation. Amazement Square offers limited stipend internships which cannot be used for college credit nor to satisfy any community service hours requirements. 

WonderCamp Intern

Amazement Square seeks interns to assist with our WonderCamp programs in the Summer of 2026. Amazement Square offers three level of camp programs: Explorer, Adventurer, and Junior. WonderCamp Explorer and Adventurer are full day programs for campers who have completed kindergarten-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade. WonderCamp Junior is a half day program for ages 3-5.

    Program Structure

    • Mentored Project: Interns will complete a mentored capstone project   

    • Professional Development: Interns will attend training sessions and meetings with museum staff leaders to gain a great understanding of the cultural and nonprofit sectors 

    • Time Commitment: High school interns will be required to work at Amazement Square twice per week for a minimum of two hours per session. Students must arrive at the museum no later than 3:30 p.m. to have adequate time to complete their tasks. College interns will be required to work at Amazement Square two to three times per week for a predetermined number of hours as decided by the museum mentor and college faculty advisor.

    Museum internships are open to high school juniors and seniors, and college students, with Sustainability and Accessibility open to college students only.
