Become a Celebri-Bee @ A²

Bees pollinate 1 in 3 bites of food we eat and 80% of the world’s flowering plants. These amazing pollinators are essential to the health and prosperity of countless ecosystems. However, bees are in peril. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, more than half of North America’s 4,000 native bee species are in decline, with 1 in 4 species at risk of extinction. This is due to a range of factors including habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and pests and disease.

Amazement Square is committed to educating our community to better understand and appreciate the importance of bees in our ecosystem. We are doing this by having created a permanent exhibition, Bee in the Know, that is all about bees, installed one of the largest bee murals, The Swarm of Honey Bees, on the northern façade of the museum facing The James, and most importantly caring for colonies of bees and nurturing a pollinator garden that is certified as a Virginia Green Space!

Help us continue these efforts by making a small contribution to Amazement Square’s Bee in the Know movement to include our outdoor pollination garden. Thank you!
