Care for the Square

Amazement Square relies on the generosity of our community to continue to develop exciting, innovative exhibitions and educational programs, serving the families of Central Virginia, and beyond! Projects such as Amazing Children, early learning outreach program, Everyone is Special, accessibility initiative for individuals with autism and their families, STEAM Library Makers, the Very Special Arts (VSA) and the Educational Children’s Garden and Mural, upgraded outdoor space, and more would not be possible without your support.

Amazing Children

Amazing Children, Smart Beginnings early learning outreach program provides engaging, social-emotional learning experiences for children and professional development for teachers at underserved early learning centers throughout our region. Hear from Peakland Preschool's Cheryl Blankenship, about her experience in the program.

When Amazement Square approached us about the opportunity to participate in Amazing Children, Cheryl was honored to step up to the plate. Amazing Children presented a different, “outside the box” approach to teaching the children and both the children and teacher were having FUN learning … or maybe I should say learning through fun! Cheryl lit up as she told me about the lessons and her excitement certainly rubbed off on the children.

Everyone is Special

In our Everyone is Special program; your museum works in partnership with Centra Health and Puzzled to develop hands-on programing for individuals with autism and other autism spectrum disorders and their families. Led by a Community Advisory Committee, Everyone is Special works to improve accessibility throughout the museum and give families opportunities to learn together through educational activities. Hear from Blake Bryant, Chairman of Puzzled as he talks about what this program means to him and our community.

Educational Children's Garden

Amazement Square is growing outside our four walls in the Educational Children's Garden. This public outdoor space will enhance our VA SOL-based school programs, provide free environmental sustainability education to visitors of Downtown Lynchburg, bring monumental works of art to the riverfront, and expand the habitat of our resident pollinators. Hear from Emily Fenichel, as she talks about the exciting things blooming at Amazement Square.
