Come enjoy live music, food trucks, and activities while soaking up the last moments of summer at Amazement Square’s Annual Riverfront Chalk Festival & Art Contest! Artists of all ages, backgrounds and abilities are invited to register for the chalk art contest and compete for coveted prizes. Amazement Square will also open its doors for just $3 per person ALL DAY!
Registration opens Monday, June 24: Beginner (ages 6-10): $10, Intermediate (ages 11-17): $10, Advanced (ages 18+): $20
Advanced: 1st place: $1000, 2nd place: $500, 3rd place: $250
Intermediate: 1st place: $100, 2nd Place: $50, 3rd place: $25
Beginner: Cafe Amaze gift certificate
Overview of Contest Rules
Only registered artists may participate. Payment must accompany registration.
Art square spaces will be assigned at registration.
Artists should be finished by 1 pm for judging.
All spaces will be 4 ft X 4 ft.
Artists may use all or part of the assigned space.
7 pieces of chalk will be provided for each artist in the following colors: white, black, red, yellow, blue, violet, and brown). Additional chalk will be available for purchase, and additional chalk provided by the artist is permitted.
You may share or exchange chalk with other artists.
We ask that you return unused chalk to the Artist Check-in.
Only CHALK can be used for drawings. No paint, crayon, ink or other non-washable or permanent products will be allowed. Use of any non-chalk or non-washable products will disqualify the artwork and artist will be responsible for cost of clean-up.
Hair Spray may be used on chalk art. No other fixatives may be used on the chalk drawing
Artists are encouraged to create art with this year’s theme “Be Inspired”
The art created must be suitable for public and family viewing.
No words, symbols or caricatures intended as political statements may appear with in the art.
Chalk art depicting or intended as an advertisement for a business, product or service will not be eligible for judgment in the competition.
Please respect the other artists who are working near you. Do not walk on their art or have open beverage containers which could spill and destroy someone’s artwork.
Please try to keep your personal supplies to a minimum and well contained by your space.
The event will proceed rain or shine. The artists are responsible for protecting their chalk art.
Plastic drapes, tape, tents or canopies can be used as needed
No boom boxes allowed. You may wear portable headsets.
Your chalk art must only include chalk. Any non-chalk props or items used in the artwork will exclude art from judging.
