In 2008, Amazement Square is going buggy for books!  This year is going to be The Year of Authors and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever!  Every month, all of our programming will be inspired by the work of our Author of the Month.  Your museum will continue to offer its diverse, interdisciplinary programs each month with the added benefit of incorporating beloved classic literature and books by new, emerging authors as well.

Be on the look out for new programs throughout the year such as our new Book Nook (a space dedicated to exploring literature through dramatic play, interactive activities, and intergenerational reading), the visiting author series, Toddler Tales, the Book Pass, and more!

The Lynchburg Public Library is an official partner of The Year of Authors.

With children’s classics, such as Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, Margaret Wise Brown has earned a place in the hearts of children and parents for generations. Brown’s unique rhythmic writing style challenged the children’s publishing world to hear the story from the perspective of the child. She imagined children would want to hear the story in a dream like rhythmic voice, occasionally placing a hard word in the prose, causing the child to stop and consider the word. She shared her love for animals in her books, using them as her clever loveable main characters. Brown is forever remembered as fun loving spirit, who was, in her own words, “a writer of songs and nonsense”.
