Amazement Square offers unique experiential internship opportunities. Interns at Amazement Square have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning and gain real-life experience in a dynamic museum environment. The internships listed below are unpaid and may count towards professional development/experiential learning credits.

Amazement Square is currently accepting applications for Spring and Summer 2017 internships.

 

Position: Development Intern – Spring and Summer 2017

Internship opportunity in Amazement Square’s Development office assisting with foundation/grant applications and other development activities. The internship would be between 4 and 10 hrs per week. The internship is unpaid, but may qualify for school credit. 

Primarily will assist with the grant proposal aspect of the museum’s development office. Ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have excellent written communication skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office, and the ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team.

This internship would be ideal for anyone interested in working for a non-profit at any capacity, as they will receive exposure to program budgets, timelines, evaluation, and goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with preparing grant proposals for the museum’s primary funding objectives, using materials already prepared for previous proposals submitted for these objectives.
  • Review available grant funding opportunities using foundation search software.
  • Assist with other development office activities including data management, mailings and organization projects.

Position: Education Intern – Museum Programming – Spring and Summer 2017
The Museum Programming Education Intern will work with education staff in program development, research, and special projects related to the museum’s general programming, including in-house programming and presentations and outreach programs. Interns will also have the opportunity to conduct educational demonstrations and interact with guests on the floor. Ideal candidate will be creative, energetic, have excellent communication skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work in a team-oriented setting. A high degree of organization and self-motivation is a must.

Education and Experience Profile
Currently pursuing or recently received Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field. Previous experience working with children and adults in a public setting preferred. 

Hours are flexible. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. This is an unpaid internship but may count towards professional development/experiential learning credits.

 Position: Education Intern – WonderCamp – Spring and Summer 2017

Amazement Square seeks interns to assist with our WonderCamp programs in the Summer of 2017. Wondercamp and Wondercamp Junior are day camps hosted by Amazement Square for campers who are 5-9 and 3-5 years old respectively.

Every week features a new theme and new campers. Past themes have included Space Camp, Who-Done-It?, Road Trip!, Mini Makers, When I Grow Up, The and the Science of Art. WonderCamp Junior focuses on developing social and emotional skills as well as exploring the basics of our themes each week. WonderCamp uses an inquiry based learning structure for our older campers. WonderCamp encourages deep exploration of topics and emphasizes STEAM based activities.

Interns will work closely with our camp coordinators, who are all licensed teachers, to help with facilitation of programming and program preparation. This is a great experience for students planning to work in education, museums, or non-profits!

Responsibilities include:

Camp Dates:      Monday-Friday | 8:45-3:30, with aftercare until 5:30

June 12-16 | June 19-23 | June 26- June 30 | July 11-14 | July 17-21 | July 31- August 4 | August 7-11

*We are open to creating half day schedules that complement the timeline of summer classes.

 Position: Special Events Intern – Spring and Summer 2017

Ideal candidate will be creative, energetic, have excellent communication skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work in a team-oriented setting. Candidate must have strong interest in learning about the management and execution of special events and be able to represent Amazement Square in a professional manner. The intern will also assist with general office work such as data entry, copying, and filing, as well as other administrative needs of the organization staff. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

Position: Marketing Intern – Spring and Summer 2017

The Marketing Intern duties will include but not be limited to: preparing marketing information and communications, helping maintain social media and online presence (online calendars) and providing assistance with all online marketing initiatives, including content creation. The intern will also assist with general office work such as data entry, copying, and filing, as well as other administrative needs of the organization staff.

Candidate should be capable of initiating and maintaining strong personal relationships – both in person and over the phone.  In addition, he/she should be able to coordinate with all departments involved to ensure the successful completion of events and marketing programs.  A high degree of organization and self-motivation is required.  Candidate must be able to quickly learn the marketing plan and the goals of the organization.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet is required.  Attention to detail a plus. Ability to be flexible with tasks given.
