Amazement Square, the Rightmire Children's Museum has partnered
with The Babcock and Wilcox Companies in developing the exciting hands-on interactive exhibition,
Watt's Up? The Energy Around Us!, on the theme of energy. It
explores the various forms of renewable and nonrenewable sources
of energy as it celebrates the 50th Anniversary of BWC.
Designed to travel to other venues after its initial showing
at Amazement Square, the exhibition is comprised of several hands-on
stations that enable visitors to explore and learn about
renewable sources of energy by interacting with and engaging a
solar powered race car model; creating a wind powered energy source
to turn on the lights in a model home; using a small scale hydroelectric
generator to turn on street lights in a miniaturized cityscape;
and exploring the ins and outs of biomass fuels. Nonrenewable sources are highlighted at stations that explore
fossil fuels and their use, nuclear energy and its applications
in medical science, space exploration and electricity. For more information, please call the museum at (434) 845-1888.
